anti-mimesis

Mimesis, the act of imitating or representing the real world through art, has been a driving force behind the creation of countless art masterpieces.

However, as the boundaries between reality and virtuality blur, a new paradigm emerges – antimimesis. Artificial intelligence challenges traditional notions of representation and opens up new avenues for artistic exploration.

The Nature of Mimesis, and Mimesis of Nature

Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life. It follows as a corollary that external Nature also imitates Art.
Oscar Wilde, 1891

Artists have strived to capture the essence of reality, more or less skillfully imitating the world around them through various mediums. Paintings, sculptures, and literature have all been conduits for mimesis, allowing the viewer to experience a semblance of reality within the confines of the artwork. The replication of human forms, landscapes, and emotions has been a testament to the artist's ability to recreate and reimagine the world.

The Rise of Antimimesis

Antimimesis, the antithesis of mimesis, challenges the notion of faithful representation of nature. The symbiotic relationship between human creativity and machine intelligence opens up a realm of possibilities, where the unexpected becomes the norm.

When we draw parallels between AI art and mimesis—antimimesis controversy, we find a striking resemblance.

Anti-Mimesis: A Fusion of Concepts

With respect to the requirement of art, the probable impossible is always preferable to the improbable possible
Aristotle

In the realm of art, the dichotomy between mimesis and antimimesis presents a captivating analogy that mirrors the relationship between AI art and human creativity. As artificial intelligence continues to redefine our perception of reality, the exploration of antimimesis becomes increasingly relevant.

The "anti-mimesis" Art Project

Art becomes a mirror reflecting the ever-evolving nature of human imagination. Human action reflects the art in a similar way—we are becoming of what we are dreaming of.

Anti-mimesis Art Project is series of visual and multimedia artworks, based on techniques augmented with use of AI, AR, and novel 3D design approaches.
